Our Mission
Unhomed.info is a public education program of the Center for Housing and Poverty Education (CFHPE). Our purpose is to increase understanding of homelessness through accessible, evidence-informed educational content.
The program focuses on shifting public perception by addressing common myths, explaining pathways into homelessness, and centering dignity and humanity.
The Problem We Address
Public discourse around homelessness is often shaped by misinformation, stigma, and oversimplification. These narratives influence policy decisions, community responses, and public attitudes, often to the detriment of people experiencing homelessness.
In Greater Houston, these misconceptions hinder effective solutions and reduce community empathy.
Our Approach
Unhomed.info provides:
- Educational articles explaining homelessness in plain language
- Myth-busting content grounded in research and lived experience
- Contextual explanations of housing instability
- Public-facing resources designed for general audiences
Our Audience
Our content is designed for:
- Members of the general public
- Students and educators
- Community leaders and volunteers
- Local stakeholders seeking accurate information
Our Impact
Through our educational content, we aim to achieve:
- Increased public understanding of homelessness
- Reduced stigma and harmful assumptions
- Improved community dialogue
- Better-informed civic engagement
Equity & Dignity Lens
Content is written to avoid dehumanizing language and to emphasize structural factors rather than individual blame. Accessibility and readability are prioritized to reach broad audiences.
