Our mission is simple: to provide services to promote the health, hygiene, and dignity of all persons experiencing homelessness and poverty in Southeast Houston. Our goal is to restore dignity to those who have been marginalized, forgotten, or ignored by our society. We equip our patrons to overcome barriers to a successful re-entry into society by providing not only for their basic needs and social services. Building relationships founded on love, mutual respect, and dignity. We belive these tenants are the birthright of all people.
Our focus is on the spiritual and emotional needs of our participants as well as their physical needs. We strive to make a difference one person at a time, never forgetting that each who walks through our door is an individual, created in the image of God and deserves our love and respect. Crossroads affirms each person’s worth as a person and offers them hope, as well as help and encouragement.
The vision for Crossroads at Park Place evolved from a group of pastors and parishioners from three churches in Southeast Houston— Park Place United Methodist Church (now Servants of Christ United Methodist Parish), St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and Glenbrook United Methodist Church. This group became increasingly concerned about the number of homeless people in their neighborhood. An informal survey surprisingly indicated that the number one need of displaced individuals, before food and clothing, was to be clean.
With hope and a vision, volunteers created a safe haven where they serve lunch, provide showers, wash clothes, and work to restore dignity to those living on the streets. On October 30, 2001, Crossroads opened its doors at Park Place United Methodist Church with a small group of volunteers, donated washers and dryers, and $700.00. That first day they served eight individuals.
We currently serve on average 400 individuals each week who are homeless or simply living in poverty. The program and services have grown from providing immediate basic needs to assisting our participants in finding housing, employment, counseling, and healthcare. Please stop by sometime and learn more about our remarkable volunteer organization.
There are no appointments necessary. If you or someone you know needs help, they're welcome to come to Crossroads each Tuesday and/or Thursday from 7 am - 12 pm.
We serve those who live in the Southeast Houston area.
