Lighthouse Christian Ministries was founded as Bay Area Christian Services (BACS) in December of 1997. Our ministry was led by Bayview residents Chuck Gussler and Karl Newmann, pastor of Bayshore Friends Church. It took years of praying, preparation, planning, and execution. A local businessman, who preferred to remain anonymous, committed to matching all donations up to $10,000 to begin in the Resale Shop and Gift Emporium that would provide revenue to fund the missions of the ministry. The original ministry location was in Kemah.
Today, Lighthouse Christian Ministries operates our resale shop and ministry programs in the heart of Bacliff. We moved to our current location on Grand Avenue in 2004. We have continued to expand our programming. We focus on five core ministry areas which include: resale, short-term assistance, educational programs, health & dental ministries, and several outreach programs. At Lighthouse Christian Ministries, we work every day to fulfill our calling, to be a beacon of light for our neighbors by building relationships through service and shining Christ’s love and hope in our community.
Providing a helping hand and encouragement to those experiencing a short-term crisis through financial support with rent and utility assistance, emergency food assistance, and care kits for people experiencing homelessness.
We changed the name of our resale store to the Bay Area Trading Post and funded several community services at BACS. The services included clothing allowances for families, limited financial assistance for utilities and gasoline, and food from food pantries. We provided job seekers with interviewing techniques, access to job boards and resume reviews, and served as a method of contact to local employers. The ministry provided resource packets for additional services that were available through area churches and organizations. The packets included information on a wide range of local programs from events focusing on families and youth to events for people over 65+ years old. We even provided referrals to parenting workshops, financial management, and pastoral counseling sessions.

LCM needs help in our area keeping our food pantry stocked. We would love it if you would consider hosting a food drive for our patrons. Schools, churches, clubs, businesses, and other organizations routinely host food drives for our benefit.
